Expedite Requests (USCIS)
USCIS Expedite Request Guide
If you’ve submitted an application to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and have a special reason, you can request them to process it faster. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and you may need to provide supporting documents.
However, USCIS has the sole discretion to decide whether to approve the request, and not all requests will be granted.
When You Can Request Expedited Processing
Here are some common situations where your request may have a higher chance of approval:
Severe financial loss to a person or business
Example: A company or individual could suffer significant financial harm.
Note: If the financial emergency is caused by your delay in submitting the application or missing USCIS deadlines, the request may be denied.
Emergencies or urgent humanitarian reasons
Example: A health crisis or life-threatening situation involving a family member.
Nonprofit organizations furthering cultural or social interests in the U.S.
The organization must be recognized as a nonprofit by the IRS.
Government interests
Examples: Public safety, national security, or matters of public interest where the government considers the case urgent.
Clear USCIS error
Example: If USCIS made a mistake in handling your case, expedited processing may be granted.
Important Things to Know
Even if your request meets the criteria, approval is not guaranteed.
Some application types follow different procedures for expedited processing, including:
Adoption, asylum, or refugee applications
Appeals or motions
Humanitarian parole
T or U nonimmigrant status
Applications processed outside the U.S.
